It produces woody or semi-woody stems, which give rise to a shrub, approximately 90-100 cm tall; the foliage is greyish-green in colour; the leaves give off an intense sage scent. From late spring until summer, small blue flowers bloom at the top of the stems, similar to lavender flowers, gathered in long spikes. The long flowering, robustness and resistance to heat and drought make the perovskia a plant much appreciated in small hedges, but also as a single specimen. Perovskia is also called Russian sage.
